BWW Review: BARNUM at North Fort Myers High School

BARNUM at North Fort Myers High School, directed by Janelle Laux, is a spectacular show. The students at NFMHS have clearly put in incredible effort, once again, to this year's theatre production, and I enjoyed every moment of it. 

Holy Cross Student Theatre To Present BIG FISH

The Holy Cross Student Theatre (HCST) will present Big Fish: The Musical as its spring production for the 2018-2019 school year. Music and lyrics are by Andrew Lippa, and the book is written by John August. Performances run at Holy Cross High School (HCHS) on 587 Oronoke Road on May 3rd and 4th at 7:30p.m.

Guilford Performing Arts Festival Performers Will Teach at Guilford High School

The Guilford Performing Arts Festival (GPAF) and Guilford Public Schools have formed a partnership in which musicians, actors and dancers from the festival will teach at Guilford High School and some festival performances will be held at the high school's 500-seat Performing Arts Center. In addition, high-school musical ensembles will perform in the 2019 festival and other students will take part in production work such as stagecraft and videography.

For the seventh year in a row, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) and Cincinnati Pops are pleased to continue a collaboration with the combined orchestras and bands of Indian Hill, Mariemont and Madeira High Schools. This collaboration is a unique, enriching experience for the students in these three districts who receive coaching from CSO musicians and Pops Conductor John Morris Russell, while playing in a larger ensemble with students from other districts.

Ipswich High School Comes to Parr Hall

A concert involving 200 young musicians from Ipswich High School, USA is soon to take place at The Parr Hall, Warrington in aid of St Rocco's Hospice. Ipswich High School is located not far from Boston and is well known in the state of Massachusetts for its excellent music department, and varied ensembles, including several choirs, bands and orchestras.The Ipswich High School Ensembles perform regularly in the USA, including recently at the Carnegie Hall. They also travel regularly to Europe, with their April 2019 tour taking them to London, Bristol and Warrington. Their Warrington performance will take place on Tuesday 16th April, at 7.30pm, and will include choral music from England and America, as well as Elgar's Cello Concerto with a young soloist from the school.


Over 1,000 Student Singers to Celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Annual High School Choir Festival

The celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Los Angeles Master Chorale's Annual High School Choir Festival will be so joyous, it cannot be contained within the walls of Walt Disney Concert Hall! As part of the celebratory Festival Day on Friday, May 3, over 1,000 student singers will give a pop-up performance outdoors on the main staircase of Disney Hall on Grand Avenue at 11:30 AM. Internationally renowned choral conductor and composer Eric Whitacre, who is the 2019 Festival's guest artist, will lead the students in a performance of Pentatonix's Sing, arranged for the Master Chorale by Ben Bram and Pentatonix.

Performances for the 2019 Maine Playwrights Festival, the state's most prolific incubator for new plays by local playwrights, have been announced for April 25 through May 4 in Portland. This year's eighteenth annual festival features the world premiere performances of six new plays by Maine playwrights. Orange County School of the Arts' (OCSA) Creative Writing Conservatory hosts its sixth annual Orange County Regional Youth Slam Event (OC RYSE), on April 13-14, bringing together aspiring young writers from across Southern California for a dynamic and engaging poetry competition. Student teams compete by performing a dramatic recitation of a classic poem. They also write and perform an original response poem that echoes elements from the classic work. OC RYSE is the only performance poetry competition of its kind in the county and features nearly 50 high school students.

National Endowment For The Arts Awards Grant To Adopt-A-School Program

The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts is honored to be one of only a handful of New England organizations to receive a Challenge America Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts from a national pool of applicants. The $10,000 grant will support the theatre's Adopt-A-School program. Endowment for the Arts Acting Chairman Mary Anne Carter recently approved more than $27 million in grants as a part of the arts endowment's first major funding announcement for fiscal year 2019. Challenge America grants support projects that extend the reach of the arts to underserved populations of those whose opportunities to experience the arts are limited by geography, ethnicity, economics or disability.
