The Pulitzer-prize winning playwright, August Wilson, is famous for masterpieces like Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Fences and The Piano Lesson. Jitney takes us on a ride through 1970s Pittsburgh. Directed by the talented Angela Littleton, this play unearths the complelling tale of a group of itinerant Black drivers who provide vital taxi services to their community, the Hill District, where white drivers will not venture. It's a story full of family conflict, the shadow of Vietnam, battles against addiction, and confronting the everrpesent specter of racism, told by a terrific ensemble of actors.
The Vortex Theatre is at 2900 Carlisle Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM.
