Kaleidoscope Crown, written by Ashleigh Akilah Rucker, is a world premiere production that follows a young girl who discovers her hair transforms into vibrant colors with each new emotion. This magical ability disrupts the harmony of her small traditional village, challenging norms and evoking conversations about identity and self-expression. Drawing from the art and traditions of the African Diaspora, the play represents a fresh narrative that resonates with both young audiences and the wider community. The production is a culmination of work developed through readings and workshops with COCA’s COCAwrites students.
