The feared figure of female killer, Bluebeard, is the central theme of the new ballet by Stephan Thoss. With Henryk Górecki and Philip Glass’ music, Thoss looks into the different reasons behind the story, revealing Bluebeard’s hidden secrets.
The tales of Edgar Allan Poe, the impossible worlds created by the painter and graphic artist, M. C. Escher, and the tale of Perrault are the sources of inspiration for this new production.
Stephan Thoss studied dance at the famous Dresde Palucca School in the former Democratic Republic of Germany. Since 2007, he has been the ballet director at the Hessisches Staatstheater in Wiesbaden, transforming its profile from classical to a modern company with a contemporary dance repertoire in a style of its own.
