American mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick is one of the world's leading exponents of the dramatic Verdi repertoire. Her talent was first noticed when she was a pre-med student at the University of Nevada in Reno. Some years after that, she debuted with the San Francisco Opera as Azucena in IL TROVATORE, and it brought her international stardom. American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.)Conservatory Director Melissa Smith announced today that honorary Master of Fine Arts degrees will be conferred on A.C.T. Artistic Director Carey Perloff, as well as acclaimed actors, directors, and teaching artists Steven Anthony Jones and Gregory Wallace. Perloff, Jones, and Wallace will receive their degrees at the graduation ceremony for the A.C.T. Master of Fine Arts Program class of 2018 on Monday, May 21 at 11 a.m. at A.C.T.'s Geary Theater (415 Geary Street, San Francisco).

The Old Globe's 2017-2018 Season continues with today's announcement of the complete cast and creative team for the Southern California debut of A Thousand Splendid Suns, Ursula Rani Sarma's sweeping and deeply moving theatrical production based on the best-selling book by Khaled Hosseini (The Kite Runner). Directed by Carey Perloff and presented in association with American Conservatory Theater, A Thousand Splendid Suns will run May 12 - June 17, 2018 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage, Old Globe Theatre, Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. The Grand Theatre is thrilled to announce a first-time collaboration with the American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.), bringing A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS to the Spriet Stage. This acclaimed stage adaptation, based on the award-winning novel by Khaled Hosseini, had its world premiere in San Francisco in July 2016 and became the bestselling production in A.C.T.'s history. The Grand's production will premiere an all new, all Canadian cast with original staging by A.C.T. Artistic Director Carey Perloff. Marking the centenary of the end of the First World War, Rachel Wagstaff's highly acclaimed adaptation of Sebastian Faulks's best-selling novel BIRDSONG is returning to Swindon this March as part of its final UK tour. The production was last in the town in 2014 to mark the centenary of the beginning of the War.

On Sunday, March 18, 2018 at 2:30pm, composer Robert Sirota's Birds of Paradise – performed by flutist Linda Chesis, clarinetist David Valbuena, and pianist Alexandre Moutouzkine – will be presented on flutist Linda Chesis' Manhattan School of Music Faculty Recital, For the Birds, in the School's Greenfield Hall (120 Claremont Avenue). Birds of Paradise was commissioned and premiered by the Webster Trio in 2008 at the National Flute Association annual convention in Kansas City, MO. This performance will include commissioned videography by Jim Berman. Sirota explains, “In 2014, Linda Chesis programmed Birds of Paradise on the Cooperstown Music Festival. Having discovered the absolutely fantastic video footage of actual birds of paradise taken in New Guinea by the Cornell Birds of Paradise lab, she commissioned a video from Jim Berman to be performed with my piece.”

An all-star ensemble of instrumentalists - Joshua Rubin, clarinet; Geoff Nuttall, violin; Christopher Costanza, cello; and Sarah Rothenberg, piano - bring to life this timeless work, which Messiaen wrote and premiered in 1941 while in confinement at a prisoner-of-war camp in Germany during World War II.

26 PRESENTS: HAPPY HOLIGAYS is the fourth edition of Pride Films and Plays' popular late night performance series inspired by the horror movie anthology THE ABCS OF DEATH. Our nine actors will present 26 scenes each inspired by a word that begins with a letter of the alphabet. Playwrights from across the Chicagoland area have created the 26 unique scenes.
