Review: SPACEMAN at Urbanite Theatre
Sarasota: Shanti M. Kennedy on January 08, 2025

A highly accomplished woman successfully joins NASA and embarks on a solo mission to Mars following her late husband's path. Initially filled with a cheerful demeanor, she finds herself alone on the spaceship stage, confiding in her computer and an answering machine stocked with messages from Earth.

Review: THE UKUKHANYA ARTS PROJECT LAUNCH at Theatre Arts
South Africa: Michelle B Lewis on January 08, 2025

The Ukukhanya Arts Project is a meaningful initiative that deserves wide recognition. It’s a celebration of innovation, creativity and collaboration and it calls out for support from schools, families and sponsors. Together, we can continue to bridge the gap between art and science, fostering greater understanding and appreciation for both. What did our critic think of THE UKUKHANYA ARTS PROJECT LAUNCH at Theatre Arts?

Review: GIRLS & BOYS at The Gamm Theatre
Rhode Island: Christopher Verleger on January 08, 2025

The Gamm Theatre welcomes 2025 with ‘Girls & Boys,’ a powerful, compelling drama about a woman’s pointed retelling of her marriage, motherhood, a successful career, and an unspeakable tragedy.

Review: A BEAUTIFUL NOISE: THE NEIL DIAMOND MUSICAL National Tour at Durham Performing Arts Center
Raleigh: Jeffrey Kare on January 08, 2025

A Beautiful Noise is a biographical musical about legendary singer/songwriter Neil Diamond. The story chronicles how a poor Jewish kid from Brooklyn became one of the most universally adored showmen of all time. With his first break into songwriting in the 1960s, his meteoric rise in the 1970s, and plenty of crushing disappointments and heart-stopping triumphs along the way.

Review: THE TRUTH ABOUT LYING at The Lyric Theatre, Hong Kong Academy For Performing Arts
Hong Kong: Rachel Wong on January 08, 2025

The Truth About Lying presents an examination of modern relationships within the bustling backdrop of Hong Kong. Written by WONG Wing Sze, the play portrays complex characters grappling with love, commitment, and the spectre of divorce. However, while some elements are masterfully executed, others feel like unnecessary fillers, detracting from the overall impact.

Review: THE BOOK OF MORMON at Broadway at The Hobby Center
Houston: Brett Cullum on January 08, 2025

If you live under a rock or in a remote African village without Facebook, THE BOOK OF MORMON was developed by Matt Stone, Trey Parker, and Robert Lopez. Trey and Matt infamously created the SOUTH PARK animated series, and Robert Lopez helped conceive the puppet comedy AVENUE Q. They took eight years to develop this one (small workshops that progressively grew larger), which finally opened on Broadway in 2011, launching the careers of Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad.

Review: KIMBERLY AKIMBO at The Paramount Theatre
Seattle: Jay Irwin on January 08, 2025

Dear Readers, first off let me wish you a Happy New Year and here’s hoping we’re in for some outstanding theater in 2025. But for now let’s set the not so way back machine to 2021 where I managed to see a new musical in previews Off-Broadway, “Kimberly Akimbo”. And let me say, Readers, it didn’t blow me away. It was cute with some fun songs but didn’t thrill me. Then it went to Broadway, and everyone lost their minds over it, and it won the Tony. Now, here we are in 2025, and that same show is at the Paramount, and while I found it a tighter show and certainly adorable and charming, I still have issue with the lack of memorable songs and, honestly, its Tony win especially when stacked up against some other shows that season.

Review: Analisa Bell's PASS ME THE POPCORN at Don't Tell Mama Is Delightful
Cabaret: Rebecca Kaplan on January 08, 2025

Bell takes us through some of her favorite musical moments from movies, sharing personal connections (and lots of laughter) along the way. The show is a love song to Bell's father, who brought her and her sister up on old arthouse movies.

Review: KRAPP’S LAST TAPE at 21ten Theatre
Portland: Krista Garver on January 07, 2025

KRAPP’S LAST TAPE, Samuel Beckett's meditation on time, memory, and regret, now running at 21ten Theatre starring Bruce Burkhartsmeier, is a masterful production that cuts straight to the bone.

Review: MADELINE'S CHRISTMAS at Arkansas Museum Of Fine Arts
Arkansas: Theresa Bertram on January 07, 2025

Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts in Little Rock is focused on providing a well-rounded artistic experience to their patrons, and this is proven to be true with their holiday offering of MADELINE’S CHRISTMAS, which ran from December 7-22. Featuring a cast of professional actors alongside talented local children, the production brought Ludwig Bemelmans' beloved story to life with charm and creativity.

Review: PETITE ROUGE: A CAJUN RED RIDING HOOD at Imagination Stage
Washington, DC: Tavish Young on January 07, 2025

Deep in the bayou of the American south lies the brassy and vibrant Petite Rouge: A Cajun Red Riding Hood. A warm tale for these cold months, Petite Rouge is, of course, a cajun take on the classic Grimm tale, featuring a bright world of animals, songs, and life lessons.

Review: IN THE HEIGHTS Bursts with Contagious Energy
Philippines: Oliver Oliveros on January 07, 2025

Despite technical challenges, the cast and crew recently pulled through the Cebu premiere of the Tony Award-winning musical 'In The Heights' at the Saint Theresa’s College of Cebu Auditorium.

Review: RAGTIME Rides on the Wheels of a Dream at The Ruth
Salt Lake City: Tyler Hinton on January 06, 2025

RAGTIME rides on the wheels of a dream of founders, artists, and donors as it opens the brand-new home of the former Hale Center Theater Orem. The magnificent musical is the inaugural production in the Smith Grand Theater at the beautifully designed, spacious yet intimate Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater (The Ruth) on the dōTERRA campus in Pleasant Grove.

Review: AIDA and the Temple of Doom Comes to the Met with Angel Blue
Opera: Richard Sasanow on January 06, 2025

Someone at the Met should have been giving out flu shots (before RFK Junior makes them illegal), because something is obviously going around the cast of the new AIDA. They should have handed out a scorecard to help the audience keep track of who-was-who.

Review: AND THEN THERE WERE NONE at Everyman Theatre
Baltimore: Tina Collins on January 06, 2025

The Everyman Theatre in Baltimore has brought Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None to life in a gripping production with clever staging and engaging performances. Directed by Noah Himmelstein, the play stays true to Christie’s masterful storytelling, blending suspense with moments of humor and intrigue.

Review: PAGANS ON BOBSLEDS XXXI: RIZZ THE SEASON at The Public Theater
Arkansas: Theresa Bertram on January 06, 2025

What did our critic think of PAGANS ON BOBSLEDS XXXI: RIZZ THE SEASON at The Public Theater?

Review: BILL BAILEY: THOUGHTIFIER, Theatre Royal Haymarket
UK / West End: Aliya Al-Hassan on January 06, 2025

A comedian, a musician, a nature-lover, a philosopher. Bill Bailey has now surely also cemented his status as national treasure. His latest show, Thoughtifier, is about his intriguing thought processes, channelled through music. So nothing new there then. However, Bailey ensures that a show that runs over two hours never flags, maintaining characteristic charm and curiosity throughout.

Review: ROB COPLAND: GIMME (ONE WITH EVERYTHING), Soho Theatre
UK / West End: Kat Mokrynski on January 06, 2025

Rob Copland: Gimme (One With Everything) begins with quite the introduction, with Copland not actually beginning the storytelling of the show for several minutes. Before the show, I had seen Copland doing some warmup stretches, which quickly made sense once he ran onto the stage, jumping around and pulling audience members up to dance with him.

Review: A CHRISTMAS CAROL at Morrilton High School
Arkansas: Theresa Bertram on January 05, 2025

For the non-theatrical people, you would be surprised at how many A CHRISTMAS CAROLs there are, and the students at Morrilton High School and their teachers presented their own version. Read the review here!

Review: SHREK THE MUSICAL at Maxim Teatern
Sweden: Annette Stolt on January 05, 2025

Great family musical. Entertaining and fun. Great musical artists.
