The Martha Graham Dance Company celebrates the work and vision of its namesake. A pioneering choreographer, Martha Graham’s timeless and uniquely American style of dance has influenced generations of dancers. For the dance company’s Omaha performance, they will perform Appalachian Spring, which features a score composed by Aaron Copland. Choreographed in 1944 as the war in Europe was drawing to an end, Appalachian Spring captures a time in American history when everything seemed possible. The dance embodies hope with its simple tale of a new life in a new land.
