Show Description:
Rosie, the sassiest kid on her block of Brooklyn's Avenue P, entertains herself and her friends by acting out show biz fantasies, notably directing and starring in an Oscar-winning movie. Based on Maurice Sendak’s The Sign on Rosie’s Door and Nutshell Library series, Really Rosie is a jewel for children and adults. Author is a winner of a Caldecott Medal, National Book Award, and a National Medal of the Arts. Composer is a winner of a National Academy of Songwriters Lifetime Achievement Award, a Grammy Trustees Award, the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the Library of Congress's Gershwin Award for Popular Song.

Characters:

Rosie – An 11-year-old Brooklyn girl who escapes her hum-drum life…especially looking after her little brother…with dreams of being a Hollywood star and director. She has a vibrant personality and is a ring-leader to the other children on Avenue P.

Kathy – Rosie’s best friend and biggest fan, she fancies herself a dancer and longs to follow in Rosie’s footlights.

Pierre – A somewhat apathetic young boy who is always willing to stand up to Rosie, but somehow still always finds himself falling under her direction.

Alligator – While not an actual alligator, he dresses and imagines himself as one. Is hopeful his alligator friends will eat his older sister. Has a great affinity for the alphabet. (Role can be cast as either a boy or girl.)

Johnny – A heavy reader who constantly refers to books he has read, even if many are only figments of his imagination.

Chicken Soup – Rosie’s younger brother who has a tendency to run off when in Rosie’s care.

*** Though the characters within Really Rosie are all between ages 7 and 11, we will only be casting adults 17 or older for these roles (a la You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown).

Audition Details:
