One of Sondheim's most popular works, INTO THE WOODS is a musically sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature actors adept at dark comedy. The story follows a Baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to attend the King's Festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.
All those auditioning should prepare a short (16 bars) musical selection that they feel shows off their voice. All auditions must be sung with piano. Songs from the show are entirely welcome (the score will be at the audition). After singing, there will be readings from the script.
PLEASE come to auditions knowing of any conflicts between December 9 through the end of the run (excluding the time between Christmas and New Years). The final two weeks of rehearsal are non-negotiable for availability. This is an ensemble show that requires a full company during run throughs and dress rehearsals.
General Rehearsal Schedule:
12/9 – 12/22: Music rehearsals
(no rehearsals 12/23-1/1)
1/2 – 1/31: Tues, Thurs, Fri, Sun (Sundays are usually an afternoon block and an evening block)
2/2 – 2/14: Final rehearsals, tech, opening
