EURIPIDES' ELECTRA - The Mobtown Players

The Mobtown Players are looking for actors for their fall 2012 production of Electra. Written by Euripides (480-406 BCE), this full-length play—being produced for the first time in the Baltimore metropolitan area—will be presented in a modern style. ROLES: 7M (5 speaking, 2 non-speaking) 8F (5 speaking, 3 non-speaking) AGES: Males, 20’s—80’s (3 20’s, 3 30’s-50’s, 1 60’s-80’s) Females, 20’s—50’s (6 20’s, 1 25-30, 1 50’s) BACKGROUND When she was a young girl, Electra’s father, King Agamemnon of Argos, was killed and her younger brother, Orestes, was smuggled out of the country to protect his life. Now a grown woman, married off to a farmer, and exiled to rural Argos, Electra reams of the day when she and Orestes are reunited and avenge their murdered father by killing the people responsible—their mother Clytemnestra and her lover Aegisthus. But when the siblings are reunited, and their father’s death avenged, will Electra and Orestes find the justice and rewards they expected? Or do the gods have a different fate in store for those who murder a parent in the name of revenge? SHOW INFORMATION Auditions will be held at The Mobtown Theater at Meadow Mills on Saturday, June 2 from 11-4pm, Sunday June 3 from 2-6pm, and Wednesday, June 6, from 6-10pm. Please prepare a 1-2 minute classical monologue for your audition. (You may be asked to read sides as well.) The play runs September 7-29 at The Mobtown Theater at Meadow Mills, 3600 Clipper Mill Rd, Baltimore.
