From the team that brought us Assassins and Pacific Overtures, Road Show is based on the true story of the Mizner Brothers. Featuring Obie-winning music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and an intricately written book by John Weidman, the piece ran at The Public Theatre in 2008 after being developed at the New York Theatre Workshop and the Goodman Theatre in Chicago in its previous incarnations.
From the Alaskan Gold Rush in the 1890s to the Florida real estate boom in the 1930s, Road Show is the story of men and women in late nineteenth century America, willing to take risks to grab their piece of the American Dream. Spanning 40 years, Road Show specifically focuses on Addison and Wilson Mizner, two brothers who are constantly looking for the next way to strike it rich. This quest turns into a test of morality and judgment for the two brothers that will change their lives in unexpected ways.
The latest offering from American musical theater staple, Stephen Sondheim, Road Show features a medium-sized cast with strong, complex roles for a variety of types. This tale of dreamers who scramble for success, identity and love at the turn of the twentieth century will strike a chord with audiences looking for a skillfully written, intelligent piece of musical theatre history.
