A Varied WhatsOnStage Awards Celebrate The West End's Breadth
by Nicole Ackman
- Feb 26, 2018
The 18th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards, held at the Prince of Wales Theatre, was a fast-paced ceremony with great performances and an enthusiastic crowd. The WhatsOnStage awards are unique because they are voted for by theatregoers online. While a few shows took home several awards each, no one show dominated enough to take the excitement away.
BWW Review: LES MISERABLES at Kansas City Broadway Series
by Alan Portner
- Dec 6, 2017
'Do you hear the people sing?' You will if you attend the 25th Anniversary edition of the 'Les Miserables' now on stage at the Kansas City Music Hall through Sunday, December 9. This is an absolutely credible recreation of the show that first hit London's West End theater district way back in 1985 and journeyed across the pond two years later. It has been running pretty much at full steam ever since.
BWW Review: Latest Stunning Revival of LES MISERABLES Thrills Nashville Audiences in Return to TPAC
by Jeffrey Ellis
- Nov 15, 2017
As difficult as it is to fathom, some 27 years ago my first review of Les Miserables the internationally renowned musical based upon the iconic 1861 Victor Hugo novel about a reformed bread thief who is pursued over the decades by a relentless lawman in post-Revolutionary France was published, yet one thought remains consistent and steadfast. If faced with someone who claims to dislike musical theater, take them to see Les Mis (as the theatrical juggernaut is known throughout the world thanks to countless revivals, regional production, televised spectacles and one Oscar-winning film) for its epic storytelling, emotionally driven character studies and a lush and memorable score that is sure to win over the most hardened opponents of the art form.

BWW Review: Providence Performing Arts Center Presents LES MISERABLES
by Larry O'Brien
- Sep 29, 2017
If you hurry over the Providence Performing Arts Center, you might still be able to catch one of the last performances of LES MIS. This show is a force of nature and hardly needs me to tell you how great it is, which is a good thing since it closes tomorrow night. Not my call, it's how the production company wanted it.
BWW Review: OBRA NI JUAN Delivers Devastating, Moving Homage to Tragic Hero
by Robert Encila-Celdran
- Sep 9, 2017
You'd be hard-pressed to find a busier man in the industry than Vince Tanada. Now in his 16th year as the president and founding artistic director of the Philippine Stagers Foundation (PSF), he also serves as the company's creative heartbeat--writing and directing productions with a history of reaching far-flung viewers. Just when you think he's due for a well-deserved sabbatical, Tanada is back with a major theater project as though he was checking a mere deadline from his law office (yes, he's still an attorney). From the looks of it, there's no sign of the playwright letting up; in fact, 'Obra ni Juan' shows all the signs of another critical renown.
